It’s very exciting to see the stonework being on our house. At first, when selecting the exterior look for our home, we did not consider adding stone. Our house style is one of many simple Craftsman style house plans being built today. But, looking at the neighborhood and seeing a few homes with stone, we really liked it so much, it was worth the additional investment.
I feel the stone really adds something great to the curb appeal of our home. Curb appeal is a huge plus if later we would ever need to sell our home. And, stone would be one of those things we wouldn’t want to add later down the road to our home especially if we needed to sell.
Getting excited To Add Curb Appeal
With the slope of our yard, I think it could be really nice to add the stone all the way to the ground line later, but I’m not sure if that’s truly possible while still having it look seamless. Either way, the stone color looks nice with the foundation concrete color and I don’t feel the foundation concrete is distracting.
Another thing I think that could be neat with the addition of the stone to the exterior is that we can create planter beds that use similar stone, possibly line the edge of the sidewalk to our front door with stone and even the edge of our driveway. And, we could even make the base of our mailbox stone look much like the stone pillar bases seen on our front porch, which will eventually have columns on the tops of them.
And, we could even carry the stone theme to the backyard and add elements of stone to the patio. It’s easy to get carried away with ideas!
In these photos, the grout color looks much darker than the stone itself. But, it should dry to have a color very similar to the stone color. Keep in mind, that you can play with the your home’s color scheme by even coloring your grout to complement the colors on the exterior of your home. There are truly hundreds of combinations and possibilities when it comes to exterior color palettes.

Love the stone work featured in the pictures! It looks awesome. Does stonework or brickwork require any extra maintenance? I will consider stonework on my home because I love the way it looks.
Stone and brick are typically very low maintenance choices. The builder also added something to the exterior of our home that will help the mortar around the stone from cracking. Although the stone is exposed to the elements, it should be long lasting for many years to come.
