Wonderful rooms have been designed by top-notch St. Louis designer Karen Pepper of Edwin Pepper Interiors.  The rooms have a little bit of Karen and a whole lot of the homeowners’ personalities.

She particularly enjoys playing with the space using textures and colors because she feels those two elements create the tone and attitude of the room.  Every room should have a mix of functional spaces and creative touches.  Pepper handles the creative end with varying textures in a room to set the mood.  Furniture is used in a stylish manner to add functionality while using plush fabrics to soften the overall look.

The only thing Pepper seems to oppose is a look that matches too much.  She feels this look is unoriginal and staged, stating, “A home should be a statement about the people living in the house.”  Mixing old and new items creates a cozy, comfortable feel.  “It’s a technique of blending and assimilating where one thing plays off another.”

Pepper stresses that homeowners don’t need to have a lot of money to get an exclusive look and feel to their rooms.  “Family heirlooms that are handed down and pictures of family and friends make the house a home and they don’t cost a thing.”  Pepper can design a masterpiece within any budget.

The one thing Karen Pepper makes sure to bring into all the rooms she designs is character.  She likes variety and taking risks, emphasizing that, “if there is no unique or original quality the room with lose a personal feel.”
